Z says this is an "overuse" injury. It usually occurs in folks doing a repetitive motion over and over again. It enflames the tendons. Z suggests varying the workout and eliminating any exercise/activity that puts stress on the elbow.
#2 Hamilton, GA Degenerative Disc Issues
Z explains that degenerative discs aren't uncommon in aging, but that they aren't linked to back pain. Z states that 50% of all back pain is undetermined. Z says not to worry about the degenerative disc diagnosis and focus on the back pain with: Tylenol (Arthritis Strength), 1-2 tablets 3x per day for up to 4weeks; An anti-inflammatory (Aleve 2 tablets, 2x a day); or Gabapentin.
Topic Obesity costs differ for Men v. Women
Z and T discuss a study (financed by a Gastric Banding Co.) that explored the discrepancy in cost of living for obese men v. obese women. While health costs were nearly the same for both, the biggest difference came in wages earned. Obesity did not impact an obese man's wages, but it did have an impact on an obese woman's wages when compared to skinnier women. Z says this is pure discrimination and form of it that's extremely hard to prove.
#3 Knoxville, TN Gay Man Barred from Blood Donation
Z explains that these rules are old and were put in place during a time of uncertainty when there were no tests for HIV and have currently become discriminatory and dangerous - given the low levels of blood donation.
E-mail Rapid Fire
T reads several e-mails from several listeners covering runny noses (Z suggests nasal spray, Atrovent), protein fats, sagging skin, green tea, racing pulses and Lexapro side effects.

E-mail Non-Hydrogenated Coconut Oil (Disagreeing with the Doc)
T reads an e mail from Alice is Bozeman, MT who disagrees with Z’s statement that all tropical oils are bad. She says you can find non-hydrogenated organic coconut oil. Z agrees that hydrogenation is bad, because it leads to trans fats, but still does not agree that tropical oils are better than olive oil or canola oil.
SEGMENT #3
TOPIC: Less Sitting = Longer Life
Z and T discuss a study that found that those who sit for 3 hours less a day can live up to 2 years longer. Z says Americans sit too much recommends getting up and walking during one’s lunch break, and jokes about getting a standing desk.
#5 Bloomfield, IN Sneezing After Meals
Z advises Misty, who is confused by why her relative always sneezes immediately after eating, that it may be due to the parasympathetic nerve system which can be stimulated by gustatory hormones in the gut when we eat and produce gustatory sneezing. For this, Z recommends taking an acid reducer before a meal, such as Prilosec or 300mg of Zantac. Z says sneezing may also be tied to having alcohol or caffeine.
Mythbuster: Heart Skips a Beat when Sneezing
T asks Z about the myth that our heart skips a beat when we sneeze. Z says that our pulse make slow and our blood pressure may go up as the pressure in our chest decreases when we inhale, and our pulse may quicken and our blood pressure may increase when we exhale, but our heart does not actually skip a beat.
