Z recommends conservative approach and to only get hip replacement if absolutely needed. Anti-inflammatory (Ibuprofen 600mg three times a day or two Aleve twice a day), seeing a physical therapist for exercises, and glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate (see Consumer Reports or Consumer Labs).

#2 Hartford, WI              Milk and Cream for Underweight Baby
Z explains that even though milk and cream seem like too many calories for adults, an underweight baby absolutely needs all of the calories. This is not too much dairy.

Topic                                  Alcohol Increases Creativity?
Z and T discuss whether alcohol during work hours for those with creative jobs is a good idea. Z calls it a junk study.

#3 Canadien, TX                MSG Causes Migraines 
Z says that it’s possible for MSG to cause migraines. MSG not only in Chinese food, but it’s in many packaged foods nowadays. If you have this reaction, you just have to avoid it.

E-mail                                 Lemon-Flavored Fish Oil
T reads an e mail from Kathy in Bedford, WI who is responding to a previous episode mentioning how fish oil tablets are difficult to swallow. Kathy suggests lemon-flavored fish oil, which she takes by spoon with orange juice or puts on top of salad. Z says he wouldn’t try it.

#4 Summer's Point, NJ  Diet for Celiac's Disease and Gastroparesis
Z recommends trial and error for the Gastroparesis - citing that each case allows for a tolerance of different foods. He suggests multiple visits with a dietition to sort out a menu of available foods. He mentions Prepulsid, which is a drug that can help, but it requires that people get special permission by a Gastroenterologist for Rx. For the Celia's Disease, Z says to avoid all wheat foods.

T reads an e-mail from a Bess in Madison, WI who suffers from what she dubs "Visual Tinnitus" or visual snow. Z strongly recommends an eye examination. Z mentions eye exercises that can "move" the snow out of her field of vision.

TOPIC:                       FDA ruling on Genetically Altered Salmon
Z and T discuss new findings that reveal fish oil pills may not be as beneficial as we previously thought they were. Z recommends eating real fish instead of fish oil pills to get the benefits.

#5 OK City, OK          Side effects of B12 vitamin shots
Z clarifies that B12 in ANY form is the same vitamin. Shots are not better or "purer" than pills. B12 is manufactured by animals only. Z says the shots are onlyusefulin cases of Crohn's Disesase where you are unable to absorb the pills from the pills.

Mythbuster:                Banana BP
T reads a listener myth from Charli in Oklahoma who wants to know if the rumor of a anana a day is good for BP. Z says this is true. It's because of the potassium.

#6 Springfield, MO     Adult Acne Follow-Up Call
The monthly out of pocket cost for Accutane ($700). T quips that the caller is looking for less expensive advice. Z explains that given Accutane's side effects, there isn't a generic drug company demand to recreate it. Z suggests a maximum dose od Doxycycline or Minocyclin which are avilable in a generic (read: cheaper) fom. He recommends (150mg) of Diflucan (also not expensive) once a week to counter the yeast infection side effects of the antibiotics.

T reads an e-mail from Deputy Laura with a helpful tip for Z to remember how to pronounce AL Dente: suggesting Z think of Dental, Dentyne, Dentures, Dentist because Al Dente translates to "To the tooth".
