The Afghan Women's Writing Project

In a country where women have been told their stories do not matter, and have been threatened for telling them, women still muster the courage to write about themselves, even at the risk of severe punishment. The Afghan Women Writers Project is a US based organization dedicated to bringing their stories to light.

  • Masha Hamilton, , a writer and author, is the founder of two world literacy projects, the AWWP (2009)and the Camel Book Drive (2007). A Brown University graduate, and an author of four novels, she teaches writing workshops around the U.S. and in Afghanistan.
  • Tina Singleton, writer and AWWP Country Director, international human rights advocate with 18 years’ experience, Tina is currently living in Kabul where she conducts workshops for the AWWP.
