International Gay Rights

In many countries, the taboo against homosexuality seems to be eroding even as the debate rages on: proposition 8, the UN and the Vatican are keeping the issue on the front page. Should gay rights be included under the Universal Declaration on human rights?

  • Paula Ettelbrick Executive Director of the International Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission, a US-based global organization that engages in and supports global sexual and gender rights advocacy. A lawyer by profession, Paula has a 20-year history in leadership positions within lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender advocacy non-profits. She is an adjunct professor of law at New York University Law School, where she teaches Sexuality and the Law.
  • Wik Wikholm President and Producer of the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender & queer encyclopedia, and also a writer, whose GLBT history columns have appeared in dozens of publications, including PlanetOut, the Southern Voice, and the Bay Area Reporter.
