The term "world music" used to mean something crafted and performed by indigenous musicians of a particular region. Today, you can start with a solid grounding in your own country's sound, and then incorporate other rhythms, modes and instruments. From bagpipes in Russia to Turkish reggae, the sky's the limit when it comes to a world beat.
