- Mary 12/10/07: "There is no shortage of laudable books for teens and preteens, but there is a shortage of children who want to read, and much resistant to reading of any kind. If anything, it is difficult to find short, interesting books for those children who are reading much below grade level. Deborah was correct when she said, in effect, that reading is more important than the quality of material read. Parents and schools should be less concerned with 'safe' books, and more concerned with creating an interest in reading per se. Our public library systems are golden in that regard, and as one listener explained, almost any book is available through interlibrary loan."
