BABY BOOMERS

Program 07-12-30-B

Listen!

After 11 years of isolation in New England, Nathan Zuckerman returns to New York City. Now 71, Zuckerman discovers that a lot has changed. In this hour of To the Best of Our Knowledge, we'll meet Nathan Zuckerman's creator, the renowned novelist, Philip Roth. And we'll find out how both Roth and his fictional alter ego, Zuckerman, are dealing with the ravages of aging. Also, how aging Baby Boomers will affect our future.

SEGMENT 1:

Tom Brokaw, former anchor and managing editor of NBC News, is the author of "Boom! Voices of the Sixties: Personal Reflections on the ‘60s and Today." He talks with Anne Strainchamps about the polarizing effects of the sixties. Also, Mark Cain is the author of "Boomer at Midlife." He talks with Jim Fleming about being a boomer and the novel he wrote about it.

SEGMENT 2:

Walker Smith is the co-author (with Ann Clurman) of "Generation Ageless: How Baby Boomers Are Changing The Way We Live Today...And They're Just Getting Started." Smith tells Steve Paulson about the six different flavors of baby boomers and why they'll have an impact into the future. Also, Catherine Boldt is one of The Gimpy Girls. Their mission is to make life easier, safer and more fun for gimpy people everywhere. Catherine provides a commentary on the joys of being gimpy.

SEGMENT 3:

Novelist Philip Roth talks with Steve Paulson about his work and says Nathan Zukerman had made his final appearance in Roth's new novel, "Exit Ghost."
